2007 AIACE President, Karl Hartnack, AIA, shares this letter from the Institute's International Director, Michael Lischer, AIA, seeking input regarding membership in the Institute for AIA members living overseas:
As part of my responsibility as International Director, I sit on several board committees. One of these is the Membership Committee. This committee is currently engaged in strategic discussions about the AIA’s membership categories and dues structure. Among the things we are looking at is the structure of the “international membership”. This includes issues such as the dues structure for international associates verses associates, the name of the international associate category of membership, how the existing membership structure accommodates international members with and without US licenses, etc.
The Membership Committee’s summer meeting takes place on the weekend of July 7th, where these matters will be discussed. I am very interested in any thoughts, comments, complaints, recommendations, etc that you and your chapter members may have. All input, critical or otherwise, is greatly appreciated!
Feel free to share this letter with your members and I welcome everyone to contact me by email or phone with their comments by Wednesday, the 4th of July. Attached, is the appropriate section from the Institute’s byelaws for reference.
Thanks very much for your input!
Best regards,
Michael Lischer AIA RIBA
International Director, American Institute of Architects

Following the commitments of the 2007 Brussels Conference and Chapter Meeting, AIACE Chapter President Karl Hartnack, AIA and President-elect Steve Scamihorn, AIA organized a (not-quite-then committee) meeting to discuss the 2008 Athens Conference. Coinciding with the Turin, Italy section event, Elias Messinas, Int’l. Assoc. AIA, (Athens Conference Chair) traveled from Greece to present his plan for the 2008 Chapter Meeting and Conference.
While a quorum was not quite achieved, five Board members and the International Committee Chair attended, plus a number of chapter members.
The trip was certainly not all work and no play, thanks in no small part to the Turin event organizer Giuliana Barbano, Int’l. Assoc. AIA and our generous host of the meeting, Dante Salmè, Int’l. Assoc. AIA.

Chapter members might care to note work being done at the AIA/UK website. In a format similar to aiaeurope.org, Richard Anderson, AIA has spent the better part of a week tweaking the structure and content of the site.
While much of the site remains under construction, some important items are worth noting:
Active but spartan, the AIACE job board has been created for use by members and for members. If you seek a position or seek offers to fill a position, please consider this portion of the site.
The first post is for a firm seeking senior professional Architects, Civil Engineers, Planners and Landscape Architects.
When the site editor finds time, the board will be more closely integrated and linked to aiaeurope.org. Rates for posts are still under consideration.
