
The France section held its annual 4 July picnic on 4 September this year. Avoiding the 104°F (40°C) heat in July, it was unusually cool, making the food and drink arranged by the France section director Michael Shamieh, plus contributions by those attending, all the more important.

Tolila+Gilliland Atelier d’Architecture, a partnership including chapter member Nicholas Gilliland AIA, has been named by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, among the 40 emerging architects under 40 (“EUROPE 40 UNDER 40”) who “will influence the near future of European architectural design, thinking, and theory with the direct consequence of impacting future environments and future European and international cities.”
Join the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) on 11-12 July in Paris for a unique visit to the Maison de Verre, the Villa Savoye, and the Maison Louis Carré. The visits are part fundraising the SAH Archipedia, meaning part of the not-insubstantial registration fee is tax-deductible. Space is limited to 25 people. The city of Nantes will welcome and organize the 10th edition of ECOCITY as part of the initiative "Nantes European Green Capital 2013".
Following on from Montreal, Istanbul, San Francisco, Bangalore, Shenzhen, Curitiba, Dakar, Adelaide and Berkeley, it will be the first edition to be held in the European Union.
ECOCITY is the cross-disciplinary World Summit on Sustainable Cities supported by the NGO Ecocity Builders.
Bertrand Coldefy shares photos from a France section visit to the development surrounding Île de Seguin just outside of Paris. Among others, the mid-November 2012 event included buildings by Foster + Partners and Ateliers Jean Nouvel.

Bertrand Coldefy, Int’l. Assoc. AIA has organized a three-hour visit to visit the Île Seguin/Rives de Seine redevelopment. The 10h00, 16 November 2012 visit to the 45 hectare island formerly occupied by Renault includes visits to buildings under construction by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, Foster + Partners, and Mateo Arquitectura.

From the Chapter to Eric Wills at Architect Magazine we offer thanks for his expanded post: "AIA Europe Conference to Spotlight Hamburg’s HafenCity Development." One minor note, which everyone familiar with AIA Europe conferences may have already spotted: AIA Continental Europe chapter conferences are biannual. Hamburg is followed by Lyon and Düsseldorf in spring/autumn 2013, respectively; Paris and an not-yet-named location follow in 2014.
