AIA Europe | Israel

AIA Europe has counted a number of members from Israel over the years and even a conference. As of 13 October 2013 it has been made official. Israel is now included in the territory of AIA Europe.

History geeks might know that the land which comprises Israel plus a portion of the Iberian peninsula were once part of the same territory. That does not include all of what this chapter calls the Southern Europe section, of which Israel is now part.

AIA National Online Member Profile (at aia.org)

A new self-service web application has been released for members to update personal information online.

Members can now sign into aia.org/myprofile to add or change contact information, provide much needed demographic information, update their education, professional licenses, career-track, and contact preferences. This new web form will help keep member data up to date, and save staff time at the component and national level.

We encourage all components to socialize this new service to their members, and provide direct linking to the profile from the component webpage. Members will also be able to access the profile page directly after logging in at aia.org home page using new navigation in the upper right-hand corner. An FAQ regarding the new page is available in in the Member & Component Support Resource Guide.

#Swisspearl Summer School: #Empower Shack

AIA Europe sponsor Swisspearl Summer School Empower Shack is a two-week design and build workshop aimed at developing an innovative, replicable shack prototype for a site in Cape Town.

The program is a collaboration between Eternit (Schweiz) AG, the Brillembourg & Klumpner Chair of Architecture and Urban Design, the BLOCK research group at ETH, and South African NGO Ikhayalami (‘My Home’).
Using an actual property in Khayelitsha – the third largest township in South Africa – as a model, 24 international students and participants from the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich will explore the complexity of living conditions in informal settlements, and the social role of architects in helping to address the economic, ecological and security challenges faced by residents.
The summer school is an initiative of Eternit (Schweiz) AG as part of a biannual program centered on the development of young architects in Switzerland.
