Dense of AIA/CES learning units and packed with opportunites for contact with American and European associates, the conference promises an in-depth look at the circumstances of contemporary development in Paris from the persepctive of the architect. I've attended chapter conferences once a year since Dublin 2000 and I've never been to an AIACE conference that did refresh and inspire my outlook on architecture. Having edited this information for the web site, I am impressed with what the structure of this program promises: a deep understanding of what is required to stimulate and nuture a new urban neighborhood, one that is neither nostalgic nor anchored by a shopping “experience”.

Not two weeks after the visit to Chartres, Isabel Meinecke, Int'l Assoc. AIA, France Section Director, organized the annual 4th of July picnic in the Tuileries Gardens. This year's gathering included a guided visit of the Tuileries and what has become a rare sighting (see photo) — Tom and Françoise Vonier in Paris during the event. Most chapter members are in agreement on this subject: Tom and Françoise add considerable energy to chapter events.

The left side of the AIA Continental Europe home page now includes links and archives. The archives are arranged monthly and include all of the items which have appeared on the home page of the site. If you have a suggestion for a permanent link, please send it to Richard Anderson. You will find his email address on the Board of Directors page. Links will be reviewed for suitability; permanent links to member country's equivalent organizations are a fine place to start.

It's Bastille Day and, naturally, minds wander to think about France, Paris and the AIA Continental Europe autumn conference.
Rest assured our conference organizers are hard at work in the Massif central, if not in an ancient volcanic lair, at least at their summer retreat. We have no update for the side-bar but the dates remain the same: 11-14 November.
We can offer no details at this time but we do know that the bulk of conference activities will occur on Friday and Saturday. The program will center on Paris rive gauche, a new urban plan and development upriver from the center of the city, on the Seine.
We have no details at this time about continuing education credits but we, the editors of this site (who have also visited the Rive gauche site), have no reason to believe that the conference will suffer from a shortage of learning opportunities).
