International Conference on Intervention in Architectural Heritage: Theatres

The Architects Association for the Defence of and Intervention in Architectural Heritage (AADIPA) of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC, the Institute of Catalan Architects) has a 4 days conference in Barcelona, Spain, from 15 to 18 december 2005.

This edition covers a unique form of architecture: theatres, restoration as well as recently-completed projects, like the recent re-openings of La Fenice in Venice and La Scala in Milan, the restoration of the Teatro Real in Madrid and of the Teatre de la Cité in Paris and the works being carried out on the Petruzzelli in Bari, together with the experience gained at the Teatro Circo in Albacete, the Teatro Pastor Díaz in Viveiro, the Calderón de la Barca in Valladolid, the Liceo Antzokia in Garnika-Lumo, the Principal in Mahon, the Principal in Sabadell, the Municipal in Girona, the Kursaal in Manresa, the Metropole in Tarragona and others to be specified. Everything explained by the architects themselves.

We will benefit from the architects’ experiences and the input of experts and specialists in acoustics, stage design and lighting, from professionals in the plastic arts and, above all, we will enjoy the insight of theatre directors, stage designers and actors.

After all, intervention in theatres involves, first and foremost, putting on a play. We want dialogue between theatre professionals and architects who have had the opportunity to restore a historic theatre to be open and plural, based on speeches and also on round table sessions bringing together all points of view and questions from the audience.

It is addressed to architects, restorers, archaeologists, art historians, other professionals involved, as well as architecture and theater students and stage professionals.

Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya is an AIA certified CES provider.

The program (PDF) earns 25 HSW LU’s.
