AIA UK event

It is only a sleeve's length (or width) away and the United Kingdom should not be forgotten as a source of AIA related events, thanks to our international compatriots in the AIA United Kingdom chapter. Visit the AIA London/UK calendar for news of upcoming events.

Among them, this May, following the AIACE Porto conference, is…

Super Saturday: New London 2012

Saturday 22 May 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Tamara Kwist, Assoc. AIA, AIACE Chapter Administrative Assistant relays this summary:
The focus of this, the AIA’s second all-day conference, is the changing skyline of London. A brief introduction on the history of London’s urban development will lead on to a discussion of ideas that will shape the city’s future urban form. Talks will include tall buildings in inception and planning stages: Grimshaw will present their designs for Minerva Tower; Arup’s Group 4 structural and environmental engineers will discuss how the tall buildings of the future will embody sustainable services strategies and the structural implications and potential of high-rise building; and KPF will review major projects currently under development, including Heron Tower and the redevelopment of the surrounding area. Major planning/infrastructure projects shaping the London of the future will also be considered, as such as major rail station redevelopments and the rejuvenation of east London planned to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics bid.
Venue (in Central London) will be confirmed closer to the date.

CES credits (tentatively six, including HSW) available. The programme is also eligible for self-reported CPD credits for RIBA members.

This event is presented in collaboration with the Architecture Foundation, whose “New City Architecture” exhibition will run from 21 May to 2 July 2004. The Architecture Foundation web site has more information.

Please RSVP to indicate your interest to info@aiauk.org. Non-AIA members are welcome.
